Designing Your Ideal Life: How a Lawyer in her 30’s Overcame Workaholism and Found True Happiness

I've been working with a lawyer in her early 30s, and we've been going through our strategy process together.

She has been excelling in her career but was struggling with long working hours and battling the crowds to find a seat on the morning train.

She was feeling like she had no life outside of work, and wanted to "get a life" as she put it.

From the start, she recognised that if she continued down the same path, she would earn significantly more money.

While she had already purchased a family home, she didn't know what steps to take next.

Time was a major constraint for her, and she needed guidance to maximise her financial situation so she could:

✅ Improve her health
✅ Pursue a side business idea
✅ Engage in a hobby
✅ Take a family holiday
✅ Spend quality time with her kids

Her initial solution was to earn more money and strive for a promotion.

This is a common challenge faced by many busy professionals. They desire more time, so they sacrifice time to earn more money, hoping it will lead to more time in the future.

The problem is, they often don't have a clear understanding of how much money they need to achieve their desired lifestyle.

Through our strategy sessions, we assessed her financial goals and provided her with a summary that revealed she was already smashing it financially.

This realisation empowered her to make significant changes, such as reducing her work to four days a week, pursuing her business idea, participating in regular fitness classes, and being present for her children.

The key outcome for her was the realisation that she didn't need more money; she needed more time.

Once she understood her financial needs, she could prioritise and create more time for the things that truly mattered to her.

I’m such an advocate for speaking to people about what you are struggling with, ideally someone who helps people who have similar issues as you.
